My poor little blog has had no love. But the little guy suffers for very good reasons:

I’ve been in HOG heaven banging out ORIGINAL GROUD UP ColdFusion code 10 hours a day, doing my own code reviews every night and all night, plus I have the THE BEST CLIENT!

I LOVE: In this FIRING order (how could there be a preference?): Model-Glue, ColdSpring and Transfer. GOSH DARN! I FREAK OUT AND LOVE THEM!!!!!!!

And.... ohhhhh I am PUMPED for a serious hammering from a serious(?) web site security tool, and I’m not kidding. I am really looking forward to it. Very much, I await the outcome. I am safe. I am safe... or I will find out how I am not... :? I’m looking forward to it. I’m looking forward to it. AOP.... AOP... securityAOP... securityAOP... securityAOP... please GOD!!!! PLEASE!!! THIS MUST WORK, BE SIMPLE AND EASY FOR THE NEXT GUY!!!!!!!!!

All the ColdFusion blog yaking about validation is REALY REALLY perking my interest at the moment.

but... back to THE question????????????????

More stupid simple DSL

I used this for a shopping cart application i have spent lots of time on.

I like it cause is lets me say: "Change me forever, I LOVE CHANGES!"

CF and the concept of DSL makes simple form generation GREAT!

Abstract what they say from what the text of your form looks like. I love it.

The people at FeedBlitz are SUPER COOL! They are responsive, nice, and totally smart.

I have been "working" with them for the last week or so to get ColdFusion to work with their API (which is TOTALLY awesome).

So without further ado...

If you want to let users subscribe to your FeedBlitz Subscriptions (like if you want a user to get emailed when your blogs RSS has been updated):

1. get a FeedBlitz account

I have never seen (maybe I have missed such a site) MS mention CFML.

I was browsing the IIS site and low and behold:

I’ve been in hog heaven at work, buried under a couple of projects that have little, or moving requirements, but loving every minute of it cause I use ColdFusion.

Ill shout out what I have been working on later but for now I need to thank some people who make life better in uncountable ways:

Mark Drew – you are totally the MAIN MAN!!!!!! YOU ARE GREAT AND SHOULD HAVE THE BEST OF EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME.

Joe Rinehart – again, you saved my life and made programming fun again. MGU is so cool, so perfect, so succinct, so pure and accurate in its ability to do what it’s supposed to do while being freakishly extendable. It is breath taking to use sometimes.

Mark Mandel – Transfer has changed my outlook on life. It is great; it too takes my breath away. A world without Transfer would be hard to face. Its power is truly awesome.

Dave Ross – ColdSpring was the framework that morphed my understanding of OO concepts from the mire of primordial nothingness, to a concrete structure that has window, people, and electricity. I sit on top of my applications now. I am not scared anymore. AND AOP IS THE COOLEST PROGRAMMING CONCEPT I HAVE EVER USED. Specifically cause I never used any programming concepts till about a year ago.

These four men have made my life better.

Mark Drew is a saint

Model-Glue is great

Transfer makes one strong

ColdSpring makes one more like the Mythical Man.

The Frameworks Conference by Teratech was AWSOME!

My high points:

Joe Rinehart's autograph, it says "Your Welcome". How true!!! How True! I'm glad he knows how Model-Glue saved my life, and made me love programming.
Too see Chris Scott as excited about the possibilities with his Cold-Spring, AOP and component meta-data as I am. Hey I must be doing something right to be as excited as he was. Happy me!

In general, I was soooooooo impressed with how super cool every one I meet was. Not one jerk in the lot, and the wide array and variety of people there was just tooooo cool.

I felt like a 13 year old girl in 1986 at a Duran Duran concert. It was awesome.

I have to prepare a PHP/IIS box for production. Sarbanes-Oxley and the responsibility to prove that I am compliant scares the bejesus out of me.

Last night I was doing my home work and pouring over article upon article about how best to Harden PHP.

I ran into this: A Study In - Scarlet Exploiting Common Vulnerabilities in PHP Applications by Shaun Clowes SecureReality (Shaun - dude you are a good writter)

OHHHH MYYYY GOOOODDD!!!

Not only is this a well written piece (get past the first page or 2), it describes many simple hacks to abuse and torture PHP and how they are done.

What blew my mind is how "Scary Open" PHP is compared to ColdFusion. Sure I get that you can code to protect yourself (what ever that means, shouldn't my platform help me do that) but … that much?!?!?! Maybe I am late to the party but WOW, with a default PHP 4.x install you can set, over ride, and kill Session and Global variables via the URL or FORM scopes. Eek!! Eek!!!

I liked reading about all the ways to hack PHP, and then transposing these ideas to ColdFusion and discovering that ColdFusion is truly an incredible language/platform. Just as powerful, just as easy, but waaaayyyyyyyyy more secure. Note: I am not bashing PHPer's, there are AWSOME PHP applications out there.

WOW, I Love ColdFusion, read that article and you will have a new found sense of: Piece Of Mind.

I guess you get what you pay for. I'll pay for security any day of the week.

I LOVE the ColdFusion Weekly ! Who in the CF community wouldn’t?

I think I love value objects just a tincy incy wincy bit/byte/stupidJoke more.

I like the pattern where the model creates the representation for the view.

I have read Steve Webster’s paper a couple of times… it makes BLATANT sense to a guy like me (who DID learn OO via frameworks) and now RACKS his brain every night trying to figure out: 1. can the next guy "get" this code and 2. is it fast?!?!?! How little lines of: useful commented code can this STUPID (ME STUPID) CFC GET TOO! … ahem …be cut to!??!(I get OO but I’m not a CompSciGuy, don’t comp sci guys know REGEX like off the chain? I hated the weekend {but still kinda liked it} when I read a manual about ISAPI re-write stuff, ummmmmmm Wyatt[awesome coworker – help please])?!?!?!?!

…. Ops I digress, VO’s are easy simple truths.

I mean the VO is cool. Give me the view? Shouldn’t model do application.VO.setValue(userData) after the data base model code is run? Might seem like a little more work but I like the feeling that the “VIEW” in MVC is getting something the model explicitly made. I guess another controller is needed. I dono.

What ever…ValueObject’s: make me happy and let me think about something else. I also like Application.cfm to manage the states of how “Birth” happens. Birth is a big deal. Is configuration in one spot? Is a ANT script simple?

Coldfuions YouTube Clone - Super Easy

I wanted to make a posting solution for my company. Needed to have a YouTube capabilbility. Could have used YouTube, but I didn’t want a YouTube bug on stuff clients were going to view.

I could not believe how TOTALLY easy this was with ColdFusion.

You need 2 things.

FFMPEG, this INCREADABLE open source project is a headless application that can accept about 32 different type of video files and can convert them to Flash .flv format
FlowPlayer, this great open source project is what I use as the player for the .flv. It is cool cause it streams the .flv with out having to “compile” with Flash 8. You just pass it the .flv name and your all set.

Here is my example using the form and action page example:

Front End Is Trying to Kill Me

I am TOTALLY tired of the front end nightmare!

Will Flex save me? I just printed out the Flex Store 2_1 and have been reading Steve Webster’s (how kewl is Webster for the name of a RIA framework creator???!?!?, LOVE IT) 6 part series on Flex Development. I think Flex will be the answer I have been looking for.

What will Flex save me from? STUPID BROWSERS!!!!! I love how CF makes making the backend easy, but trying to wrestle Yahoo UI, Dojo, or script.aculo.us, or my fav TwinHelix (MOST LIGHT WEIGHT, MOST CROSS BROWSER SUPPORT DTHML LIB out there) to solve some problem that my designers have made every time is getting to be a bummer.

F this HTML stuff, give me something that works. I think it is here.

I think I am going to try to give Reactor Blog a Flex front end.

Ill post code if it comes out.
